Hajj Kamel (Hussein Riad) takes in an orphan boy named Gharib, whom he finds on the streets. Gharib (Yehia Chahine) grows up alongside Hajj Kamel's children, including Mohrez (Mohsen Sarhan), who harbors hatred for Gharib from childhood, in contrast to the younger daughter Yasmin (Magda), who is close to him. When Hajj Kamel dies, Gharib takes over his business and continues to care for Yasmin until a wealthy young man, Anwar (Kamal El Shenawy), enters her life. The Stranger features a screenplay by Hussein Helmy El Mohandes and is an Egyptian adaptation of the classic novel Wuthering Heights, reflecting a cinematic trend at the time of offering artistic interpretations of global works. The stars of this era delivered outstanding performances under the direction of two prominent filmmakers, Kamal El Sheikh and Fatin Abd El Wahab.
